What is in your hand?

Open-hands

Have you ever noticed how often God completely solves your problem with what you are already holding in your hand?

Certainly there are those times when He comes through in a completely divine way and provides miraculously…like the manna in the wilderness. But how many other times did He use what was available?

  • When Moses asked what if they will not believe me or listen to me, God simply asked, what is in your hand? And Moses said, "A staff." And God used the staff to work miracles. (Exodus 4:1-2)
  • What about the widow who had nothing left and asked the prophet for a miracle? She was going to have to sell her sons into slavery to get out of debt. What did the prophet ask her? What do you have in your house? She had a little vial of oil and God multiplied it. (2 Kings 4:2-3)
  • What about when God provided an alternative sacrifice when he was on the mountain? A ram caught in the thicket by his horns. (Genesis 22:12-13)
  • When the disciples needed to feed the multitudes, Jesus told them to feed the people. They replied that all they had were 5 loaves and two fishes. He took what they had and performed a miracle. (Matthew 14:13-21)
  • Jesus used a blind man to make a point to the religious leaders. Jesus stood in front of the man, bent down and used what He could find to anoint the man. He spit in the dirt and mad a mudpack for the man's eyes. The man was healed. (John 9:1-12)
  • When Peter hadn't caught any fish after a full night of fishing, Jesus asked him to "let down the nets" he was holding in his hand. The result was a net-breaking, boat-sinking load of fish. (Luke 5:1-7)

And there are probably many, many more examples where God simply used what was at hand and turned the situation around.

What are you praying for today? What is the problem or question or bind that you find yourself in? What do you have in your hand that God can use? If God can use spit and dirt or nets or a stick or bread and fish, He can use what you have in your hand too.
