Faith Popcorn’s a genius!

Last Wednesday, I was fortunate enough to attend the Free
Public Seminar
at the Wizard Academy in Austin,TX led by Roy Williams. During
the seminar in a discussion about the future, Roy mentioned Faith Popcorn’s out-of-print book on trends
called The Popcorn Report. In it Faith predicts the oncoming personal computing
age; including email, on-line shopping, product comparison, etc.

She says, “ScreenMail. All day long the mail comes in, visualized on the
screen or printed out–it’s how we shop, pay bills, organize incoming
information, and send our own information out. There are specials, such as
"One-Day" ScreenMail Offers, much like the old-fashioned One-Day
Sales. With mail-order catalogs obsolete, ScreenMail ordering is thriving.

And there’s this “All members of the family
will be able to shop from one location. Instead of going to the store, the
store will come to us, no matter how unusual the product or how frequently
needed."
(page 164)

Maybe not all that amazing unless
you consider that she wrote that in 1990!
