This changes everything

This painting, Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, by Pablo Picasso was completed during the summer of 1907 in France. It is said that Picasso drew over 100 sketches in preparation for this one work. This painting is widely considered his seminal work in Cubism and marked the birth of Modern Art as we know it.

I can just imagine the art critics, gallery owners and collectors viewing this piece for the first time, with it’s odd angles and misshapen faces. With mouths wide open, they must have thought, “this changes everything.”

This painting changed the way people thought about art. It changed the way other painters thought about their own work. It changed the way gallery owners and collectors went about their business. Picasso’s work did indeed change everything.

What about the Studebaker Corporation? Long before they were making cars, they were making fine wagons…just fine thank you very much. Traveling from place to place in a horse-drawn wagon was just fine. Everyone was completely satisfied…that is until Henry Ford introduced his Model T. That car changed everything. Overnight, the horse and buggy became obsolete.

What about Sony? They introduced the Walkman and portablized the music industry. But did they really change anything? Not really. Same cassette tapes, same CDs, all purchased at the same music store.

Steve Jobs changed all that with the iPod. Like Picasso and Ford before him, he completely changed the industry. I’ve spent well over $100 in the last several months without going near a music store. I’ve purchased all my music online.

Now we’ve got great cell-phones like flip-phones, razor phones (Walter), phones that play music, 78379_bigiphoneinhand_1
phones that play video programming, phones that run Windows software. Unbelievable. But Jobs has done it again with the iPhone. Changing the industry once again. The iPhone will change the way people think about personal communication devices. It’s far more than just a phone.

OK…what does all this mean for me and you? I believe you carry something inside you that will change everything. I mean it. Not merely adjust things, or tweak them a little bit…but change things. God wants to use you to bring freedom, healing, deliverance, innovation into this world. When you begin to do those things you were born to do…the world will take notice. They’ll lean in close to the person next to them and say, “this changes everything.”
