The Other Father’s Day

Dadandsully_1My dad (pictured here with my son Sullivan – now 11) left this earth and went to be with Jesus six years ago today. Ever since then, November 1st has always been Father’s Day to me. My dad was strong. He was smart. He was funny. He knew how to connect with others. He was a friend. He was complex. He was flawed. He was a learner…a seeker. He taught me how to live, he taught me how to persevere, he taught me how to fight for what I think is right. My dad taught me how to die. Here’s to you Don. We’ll never forget the way you touched our lives.

After my dad died I wrote an essay entitled "Death In Here." For those of you who haven’t yet read it and want to, it’s available to download on the left side of this page in the "My Stories" column.
