Location, location, location

It has long been a retail sales adage…location trumps everything else. If you have a great location, you can get by with prices that maybe aren’t that competitive, store layout and design that isn’t that great, even a sub-par marketing and advertising plan…location alone will still get you customers and profits.

I was thinking that the same thing is true for us spiritually. When we choose to follow David’s advice in Psalm 23, to dwell in the house of the Lord forever, we are choosing prime location.

But it’s a pretty easy choice not to make. How often do we choose to live in darkness or in pain or in sickness instead of living in Him? It is a choice you know. I’m not talking about where you physically live…I’m talking about where you live emotionally and spiritually.

How many times have you heard testimonials from those who have been tortured or kidnapped or held against their will? (By the way…that does sound like my life sometimes!!) The ones who come out of that experience successfully have usually been able to “go to another place” in their minds and hearts. They’ve been able to mentally transfer from the terrible place they are in and go to a much better place.

That’s what I’m talking about here. Where do you dwell? Are you living under the circumstances? Or are you able to dwell in Him. The Merriam-Webster on-line dictionary defines the word dwell as to live as a resident. To me…residence means you’ve put down roots, you’ve made it your place of belonging. It’s home, where everybody knows your name.

When you make the choice to dwell in Him…to make Him your place of residence and belonging, the world can do what it will…but you don’t live there. You are abiding in Him and when you’ve got the location right, the other stuff doesn’t matter as much. But that’s just what I think. How about you?
