Cortez had it right

You never know where inspiration might strike. I suppose that’s why you always have to be ready…waiting for it. I used to write only when I felt inspired and consequently, I rarely wrote. Now, I choose to write every single day. (Sadly, not enough of my scratchings make it to the blog!)

But yesterday I was inspired to write. I had the rare occasion to be in the downtown Tulsa library with all the other homeless guys looking for a warm place out of the wind. I noticed on the wall pictures and quotes from past winners of the Anne Zarrow award for Young Readers Literature.

I noticed a quote from Richard Peck who was given the award in 2002. His words intrigued me. The only way to write is by the light of the bridges left burning behind you. I guess he made that quote during his acceptance speech.

Go on…read it again. I’ll see Richard and raise him one…The only way to LIVE is by the light of the bridges left burning behind you. I realize how drastic that statement is but I believe drastic is what’s needed.

How many people do you know who are still holding on to some remnant of the past, some shred of the way things used to be. HINT: it ain’t never gonna be like that again. MOVE ON!

I believe that God calls us to forcefully advance…to keep moving forward. I further believe that whatever problem you may be praying through right now…whatever you are seeking is out in front of you, not behind you.

Now I’m not advocating the torching of relationships. I don’t think that you slash and burn and leave a trail of destruction in your wake. What I am saying is that you should constantly be moving ahead and not giving the dangerous effects of inertia a chance to take affect.

Bravo Richard! Great word for the day. Live a daring life today.
