Are you moving higher, or lower?

I'm in New Hampshire this week at Brookwoods for the NY/NE Sectional Fireside. Just about 100 camp leaders from all over New York and New England have come for a few days of education and encouragement.

I took a walk this morning around Brookwoods. It's beautiful. Right on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee (yeah…I checked. That's the right spelling). As I walked through the woods, I began to see small rivulets of water…snow melt…that were running downhill. Soon those rivulets would join to become streams, then into one beautiful falling creek, rushing downhill to the lake.

I got to thinking about the Kingdom. Sure, Jesus talked about a city on a hill and holding your light high but I think he talked alot more about going low. The servant will be the master, the last shall be first, the lowest will become the highest, the humble will be favored over the proud.

As you prepare for your summer season are you mindful of going low? Remember, it's not all about you and what you want. It's all about serving. What are you putting in place right now to ensure that your staff gets servanthood? What are you doing to be intentional about serving those that God has called you to serve? If you aren't intentional, it won't just happen. Like the water, are you rushing to find the lowest place? You'll never be disappointed when you go into a situation low.

Remember the Water Song from Hannah Hurnard's book "Hinds Feet on High Places?"

Come oh come let us away
lower lower every day
Oh what a joy it is to race
To find the lowest place
